Modeshift
As Headteacher of Dobcroft Infant School I would like to acknowledge the work that has been done to encourage our pupils to travel to school sustainably. I am really proud to endorse the submission for this award in recognition of the efforts of staff, parents and pupils. Every year it is great to have the opportunity to recognise the team for their hard work and commitment to the promotion of walking, cycling and other forms of sustainable travel to school: our collective effort to encourage more pupils and their families to adopt healthy lifestyles. Together, we are working towards making a real difference to how people are undertaking the journey to school.
This award is important as it recognises Dobcroft Infants commitment to best practice in sustainable school travel. Working closely with Sheffield County Council and PWLC we have shown an 3% decrease in car use in 2 years and our “Park n Stride “ journeys have increased by 7% i.e. pupils choosing to walk, scoot or cycle.
Taking part in Modeshift STARS has really helped our school embed a culture of sustainable travel within our curriculum and I am very proud of all the children at Dobcroft and their efforts to reduce the traffic around the school grounds, as well as getting fit themselves. We aim to keep working on our sustainable travel into the coming year and beyond!
