Andy Gates – Chair of Governors

Parent Governor (Oct 2017)

In my current role as a Regional Head within the ESFA, I lead a large multidisciplinary team to ensure new schools (Free Schools) are delivered to time and to budget. My geographical area of responsibility stretches from Northern England, down to Hertfordshire. Prior to that, I have held a number of positions within the Department for Education, which have included developing Academy policy and ICT in schools. My skills/experience include significant leadership experience, programme management, financial management, problem solving, strong communication skills and line management.

I have been the Head at Dobcroft Infant School Since September 2004 having previously been the Head at Broomhill for 4 years. I have been a Governor since 1993 first as a teacher representative and then in a Headteacher role in particular looking at the value of Early Years.

As a Governor, I want to drive through strategies for school’s priorities.

I have been the Senco and Deputy Head at Dobcroft Infant School for the past 2 years. However, I began my Teaching career at Dobcroft as an NQT. I was the Owls’ teacher for 4 years before leaving to become an Assistant Head at a school in Rotherham. I came back to Dobcroft because the school has a welcoming warmth to it that you just can’t replicate. I feel that the staff and children are amzing and I enjoy being part of their journeys.

I attend all governor meetings and support the Headteacher and the Chair of Governors to the best of my ability.

I am a Town Planner and for the past ten years I have worked in Leeds as a Planning Consultant advising clients on planning and development matters. My career involves working as part of large multi-disciplinary teams and developing relationships with people through excellent communication skills. This ensures the delivery of successful projects within budget and tight deadlines. I believe these professional skills will help in the role of parent governor.
My eldest son is in Junior and my youngest son will start in 2018. So I have embarked upon what I hope will be a long, enjoyable and rewarding relationship with the school.
Currently I am on a career break from work and so I will be able to offer my time and enthusiasm to the school in its PSA activities and perhaps as a Governor. I relish the opportunity to engage with parents and to promote the school and the interests of its children.  I would hope to work closely with all parents and to support Mrs Rowland and her Staff in their quest to ensure that the school continues to give its children an outstanding education.  If elected I would welcome the chance to learn more about the school and its educational processes which might also contribute to my own continuing development.
