DOBCROFT INFANT SCHOOL

This week in Year One...

Date: 5th Oct 2016 @ 2:01pm

We have had such a busy week in Year One this week. We have been looking at the following stories;

'The Three Little Pigs'

'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs'

'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig'

We have been using adjectives to describe and compare the different characters in these stories. We have also acted out 'The Three Little Pigs' in small groups.

In maths, we have been thinking really hard about subtraction. We have been learning how to write equations to show our subtraction problems and we are now all able to use the part-part-whole model to write these equations. Well done Year One!

In our P.E sessions we have covered dance and are learning about the Daily Mile. As part of our Active School initiative, children are having a go at running a set route which equates to running 1 mile (16 laps of the bottom playground!) The children are really enjoying the challenge, and everybody (teachers included!) has completed at least one Daily Mile attempt this week either walking or running the set route. Great effort Year One!

We have been talking about how to be a good friend this week in PSHE. Everybody joined in our class discussions and we thought about the different ways that we can be a great friend. Keep making good choices Year One!

We have been showing our creative side this week too, making collage and painted pigs, houses and big bad wolves for our classroom displays. We have investigated different materials and talked about the materials we would choose to make our own houses. We have also been making paper plate pig and wolf masks.

Keep checking back for more updates about what Year One have been getting up to.
